Jim Carrey Set To Return As Dr. Robotnik In Sonic The Hedgehog 3

Jim Carrey will be reprising his role as the iconic mad scientist, Dr. Robotnik, in the upcoming film ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3.’ Despite the character’s apparent demise in the previous movie, a post-credits scene hinted at his return, and now it has been confirmed.

‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ and its sequel have collectively grossed an impressive $870.8 million worldwide, which explains why Paramount, the studio behind the franchise, is eager to continue the series. In addition to the third installment, the studio is also developing a spin-off TV series called ‘Knuckles,’ set to premiere on Paramount+.

The returning cast members were previously announced, but Carrey’s name was surprisingly absent until now. His return as Dr. Robotnik was hinted at in a teaser released by the ‘Sonic’ filmmakers, featuring the character’s distinct cackle.

Directed by Jeff Fowler, who helmed the first two films, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ is all set to hit theaters on December 20, 2024. The film will be produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, and Hitoshi Okuno.

Joining Carrey and the previously announced cast will be a new lineup of talented actors. Krysten Ritter, known for her role in ‘Jessica Jones,’ along with James Wolk, Alyla Browne, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, and Jorma Taccone have all been welcomed into the ‘Sonic’ family.
