Joan Rivers Tribute Comedy Special

New York, NY – NBC is preparing to air “Joan Rivers: A Dead Funny All-Star Tribute” on May 13, celebrating the life and legacy of the iconic comedian who died in 2014.

The hour-long special will feature a variety of famous comics and was filmed at the Apollo Theater during the 2024 New York Comedy Festival. The show comes nearly a decade after Rivers’ passing and aims to honor her contributions to comedy.

Melissa Rivers, Joan’s daughter, expressed her excitement for the tribute, stating, “This tribute is everything my mother would have wanted — hilarious, unfiltered, and filled with people she respected (and roasted).” She reflected on the emotional impact of bringing together so many comedians who have been influenced by Joan’s trailblazing career.

Joan Rivers, a pioneer in the industry, was known for her sharp wit and frank style. She made history as a frequent guest on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and later hosted her own versions of the show. She became a household name with her work on the E! Network‘s “Fashion Police” and her red-carpet commentary.

In addition to her comedy work, Rivers was a Grammy Award-winning performer and also received recognition for her daytime talk show, which earned her an Emmy Award. Her bold style and outspoken nature made her a groundbreaking figure for women in comedy.

This special will include performances from a diverse lineup of comedians including Aubrey Plaza, Tracy Morgan, Sarah Silverman, and many others. The event promises to mix classic Rivers humor with fresh material as performers pay homage to her legendary status.

Melissa Rivers highlighted the importance of the event, noting, “I know she’d be thrilled to see how far things have come, and she’d still have notes.” The tribute is set to stream on Peacock the following day, featuring extended content not aired during the live broadcast.

Don’t miss the chance to celebrate Joan Rivers’ legacy during “A Dead Funny All-Star Tribute” on May 13 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
