João Fonseca Tennis Match Brussels

Brussels, Belgium – Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca is set to make his debut in the main draw of the ATP 250 tournament in Brussels on Tuesday, October 14. He will face Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp in what is an important first-round match.

This marks the first time the 19-year-old Fonseca will compete as a seeded player in an ATP event and he currently holds the 45th position in the ATP rankings. He is the only Brazilian in the men’s singles event, striving for a spot in the round of 16. As the seventh seed, only the top four seeds automatically advance to the second round.

The tournament is being held on indoor hard courts, kicking off a series of late-season events that are crucial for ATP rankings. Fonseca’s previous match was on September 19, where he triumphed over Italy’s Flavio Cobolli in the Laver Cup.

In this match, Fonseca will look to build on his success from the last encounter against Van de Zandschulp, where Fonseca won in straight sets during the 2024 Davis Cup, with scores of 6-4, 7-6. Van de Zandschulp, currently ranked 86th in the world, is seeking his first ATP title after previously finishing as a runner-up three times.

Fonseca’s upcoming schedule includes important tournaments following Brussels: ATP 500 in Basel from October 20-26 and the Masters 1000 in Paris from October 27 to November 2.

With a competitive spirit, Fonseca hopes to capitalize on his previous victory against Van de Zandschulp as he aims for success in Belgium.
