Jocelyn Thibault Resigns Prematurely From Hockey Québec Due To Resistance To Change

Jocelyn Thibault has made the decision to step down prematurely from his position as the executive director of Hockey Québec, announcing his resignation scheduled for June.

Thibault stated that the key reason behind his early departure was the resistance to change he encountered within some sectors of the organization.

The former Montreal Canadiens goalie, who took on the role in November 2021, aimed to modernize Hockey Québec and address the negative aspects of hockey culture.

In his official statement, Thibault expressed pride in the progress made by the federation’s staff and board of directors in prioritizing youth involvement and enhancing governance and organizational culture.

Despite advancements at the national level, Thibault stressed the crucial need for similar modernization efforts within regional structures and local associations, citing resistance from some of these entities.

Stéphane Auger, a former NHL referee, is set to assume the role of Hockey Québec’s executive director of operations following Thibault’s departure.

Additionally, a new position, the executive director of hockey development and enhancement, is anticipated to be established in the near future.

Quebec Sports Minister Isabelle Charest acknowledged Thibault’s resignation, expressing gratitude for his dedication and commitment to Hockey Québec.
