Joe Flacco Boosts Bengals Offense Amid Iosivas’ Struggles
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Bengals’ offense has found new life with quarterback Joe Flacco leading the way, but not all players are basking in the success. Ja'Marr Chase is enjoying one of the best three-game stretches in NFL history, while Flacco is having his best series of games since 2010.
In the past three weeks, the Bengals’ run game has produced 378 yards, marking the best span since 2022. The offensive line is also performing well, allowing just four sacks and 12 quarterback hits. Role players like Noah Fant and Samaje Perine have stepped up, contributing to the offense’s resurgence. However, wide receiver Andrei Iosivas is struggling to find his footing.
Iosivas saw increased playing time due to an injury to Mike Gesicki but has not capitalized on the opportunity. In three games with Flacco, he has caught only four passes and has dropped four balls out of 11 targets, according to Pro Football Focus. His play has drawn concern, especially after he dropped a crucial pass during the team’s loss to the New York Jets.
When asked about his confidence, Iosivas responded, “It’s fine. I work as hard as I can, and the plays will come when they come.” He reflected on the crucial drop against the Jets, which could have changed the outcome of the game, stating, “Everybody needs to make plays for us to win in a team sport.”
Head coach Zac Taylor expressed faith in Iosivas, saying, “I think there’s certainly a couple plays that he wants back. I’ve got a lot of faith in Andre.” This faith coincides with the team’s upcoming match against the Chicago Bears this Sunday.
In contrast to Iosivas’ struggles, Chase is maintaining focus after the team’s shocking loss to the Jets, where they blew a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter. Chase emphasized a “24-hour rule” for processing defeats before moving forward. As a new team captain, he is working to help his teammates maintain morale and productivity.
“I’m really just controlling the things that I can control,” Chase said, detailing his leadership role. The player commented on defensive unity after a loss, acknowledging that they often hold separate meetings to address their concerns.
Despite the turmoil surrounding the Bengals this season, including issues with their defense ranking at the bottom in multiple categories and quarterback uncertainty, the team is optimistic. With each game, they have the chance to improve, especially with Flacco revitalizing the offense.
As the Bengals prepare for their next challenge, Iosivas knows the importance of stepping up. “I just gotta make the plays when they come to me,” he said, looking to turn his season around.
