Joel McHale to Host Season 2 of Fox’s ‘The 1% Club’
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Fox‘s quiz competition series “The 1% Club” has been renewed for a second season, with Joel McHale stepping in as the new host, replacing Patton Oswalt. The show, which challenges contestants with logic and reasoning questions, will air exclusively on Fox after its first season streamed on both Fox and Amazon Prime Video.
Each episode of “The 1% Club” begins with 100 contestants who face elimination as they answer a series of questions designed to test their logic, reasoning skills, and common sense. The ultimate goal is to win a $100,000 prize by correctly answering a question that only 1% of the country can solve.
The series is based on an international format created by Dean Nabarro and Andy Auerbach and is produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions and Magnum Media. Executive producers include Nabarro and Auerbach for Magnum, as well as Ryan O’Dowd and Krystal Whitney for BBC. Wes Kauble serves as the showrunner.
“The 1% Club” originally aired on the U.K.’s ITV in 2022 and has since expanded to multiple countries, including the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, France, Israel, Spain, Turkey, Mexico, Greece, Ukraine, and Hungary.
Joel McHale, best known for his role as Jeff Winger on the NBC sitcom “Community” and for hosting E!’s “The Soup,” is no stranger to Fox. He currently hosts the network’s baking competition series “Crime Scene Kitchen” and stars in the sitcom “Animal Control,” which is in its third season.
“Joel’s outstanding comedic timing and hosting charm already make him a standout talent here at Fox, and now — building on ‘The 1% Club’s’ strong first year on the network — we’re bringing his unrivaled energy, irreverence, and charisma to Season 2,” said Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network.
McHale expressed his excitement about the new role, stating, “I am 1,000,000% excited to be partnering with Fox to host ‘The 1% Club.’ I absolutely love the show and love the gameplay to the 10x and guarantee my hair, makeup, and wardrobe will look great at least 68% of the time.”
Ryan O’Dowd, president of unscripted at BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions, praised McHale’s comedic talent, saying, “99% of us are unfortunately not as funny as Joel McHale, which makes him the perfect host for ‘The 1% Club.’ His unmatched approach to comedy is innately unpredictable and will take audiences on a thrill-ride as they watch him in action with our contestants, striving to put their wits to the test.”
Season 2 of “The 1% Club” is set to bring a fresh dynamic to the popular game show, with McHale’s unique humor and hosting style expected to elevate the competition.
