John Cena surprised WWE fans with a retirement announcement at WWE Money in the Bank 2024 in Toronto. The 16-time world champion took the stage after Sami Zayn‘s Intercontinental Championship victory over Bron Breakker.

During the event, hosted by Trish Stratus, Cena revealed that he will retire at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, making the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber events his final stops on the road to retirement.

Cena’s retirement announcement was emotional, as he expressed gratitude to the fans in Toronto and reflected on his career in WWE.

Speculation about Cena’s retirement had been building, with hints in recent interviews that he planned to step away from in-ring competition before the age of 50.

John Cena’s last WWE appearance before his retirement announcement was in April, teaming with The Miz and R-Truth. He also made a surprise run-in during the WrestleMania 40 main event between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns.

Having debuted in WWE in 2002, Cena’s impending retirement marks the end of an era for the wrestling legend.

Triple H, WWE’s CCO, praised Cena as ‘The Greatest of All Time’ on Twitter following the retirement announcement.

With WrestleMania 41 set to be Cena’s final match, fans can expect a major moment in WWE history as the wrestling icon closes this chapter of his career.
