HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — John Cena, WWE superstar and actor, has opened up about his past battle with skin cancer while promoting his latest partnership with Neutrogena for their ‘Sunscreen You Can’t See’ campaign. The campaign features Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Mineral Face Liquid Sunscreen SPF 70, a lightweight formula designed for invisible protection.

Cena’s journey with sun exposure began in Massachusetts, where he fondly recalls summers spent on the North Shore beaches. However, he admits he often neglected to apply sunscreen during those years, a habit that continued when he moved to Florida, where he developed a love for the sun.

“I was stubborn. I didn’t want to have a routine and thought the problem would never reach me. Unfortunately, it caught up with me,” Cena said.

The actor shared that it wasn’t until he visited a dermatologist and had a cancerous spot removed from his right pec that his perspective shifted. This alarming experience led to another spot being removed from his right shoulder. “I was very lucky to have a great dermatologist who kind of, I guess for lack of a better term, held me by the hand and let me know that I wasn’t alone,” Cena explained.

Recognizing the significance of human connection amidst the overwhelming statistics surrounding skin cancer, Cena recalled the anxiety of receiving follow-up calls after his checks. “That phone call’s not what you want to get because it is unpredictable and you don’t know how bad it’s going to be,” he said.

Now, Cena is determined to raise awareness about the importance of sun protection. His partnership with Neutrogena aims to leverage his iconic “You Can’t See Me” catchphrase to emphasize that sunscreen should not be overlooked. “I’m very fortunate to hopefully be a mouthpiece to get people to use sunscreen,” he stated.

Cena emphasized that applying sunscreen should be as routine as brushing teeth, saying, “If you don’t take care of your skin, the consequences can be painful, just like dental issues.” He highlighted the importance of integrating sun care into everyday life, urging others to take the simple step of applying sunscreen.

Reflecting on his unexpected role as a skincare advocate, Cena noted, “Never once did I picture myself as the go-to person for a skincare campaign. But I’m grateful to have the backing of such a dedicated audience for so long.” His story serves as a reminder that caring for one’s skin is crucial, not just for aesthetics but for longevity and well-being.
