Johnny Davis Returns Home to Play for Wisconsin Herd

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Former La Crosse Central star and Wisconsin Badgers standout Johnny Davis is returning home. The 23-year-old guard has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Milwaukee Bucks‘ G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd, after being acquired in a trade with the Westchester Knicks.
Davis, a once highly-regarded NBA prospect, aims to revive his professional career after struggling during his time with the Washington Wizards. He was drafted 10th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft but averaged just 3.5 points across 112 games in three seasons.
“This is a fresh start for me,” Davis said. “Being back in Wisconsin means a lot, and I hope to demonstrate what I can do on the court.” Davis had a standout college career, highlighted by earning the Big Ten Player of the Year honors in the 2021-2022 season, where he averaged 19.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
After his time with the Wizards, Davis was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies but was waived before he played a game. He then signed with the Westchester Knicks, averaging 13.1 points across eight games during his G League stint.
The trade back to Wisconsin follows a challenging journey where the talented guard struggled for consistency. Over his G League career, Davis has played 25 games and averaged 10.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.3 steals.
Davis returns to Wisconsin with hopes of proving that he still belongs in the NBA. “I’m focused on getting back to where I know I should be,” he added.
The Wisconsin Herd, known for fostering NBA talent, starts their season on Nov. 8. With his former success in Wisconsin, hopes are high for Davis to regain his dominant form in front of local fans.
