Norwich City is gearing up for its opening Championship match against Oxford United, but there’s a notable absence on the pitch. Winger Jonathan Rowe, at just 21 years old, has decided to sit this one out due to some serious transfer interest.

Rowe has already caught the eye of clubs like Leeds United and Marseille this summer. While there’s been some chatter and a few bids, no team has met the Canaries’ price for him yet. The club seems determined to hold on to Rowe until someone coughs up the right cash.

Another player missing from the lineup is Jose Cordoba, who’s still recovering from a groin problem that affected his pre-season. On the bright side, fellow new signing Callum Doyle is set to start at left-back. The defense also features veteran players like Grant Hanley and Shane Duffy, while Jack Stacey holds down the right-back position.

In midfield, Liam Gibbs has secured a starting spot over Jacob Sorensen. Meanwhile, Adam Idah, who’s been attracting interest from Celtic, will be watching from the bench. New addition Amankwah Forson, joining from RB Salzburg, is also on the matchday squad.

Unfortunately, Ashley Barnes is out due to calf surgery from last season, but he’s begun training on his own and is optimistic for a September return.

The matchday squad for Norwich City will include Gunn, Stacey, Hanley, Duffy, Doyle, McLean, Gibbs, Nunez, Fassnacht, Sargent, and Sainz. On the bench are Long, Fisher, Hills, Sorensen, Forsyth, Forson, Myles, Kamara, and Idah.

As for Oxford United, their starting lineup features Cumming, Long, Brown, Vaulks, Moore, Placheta, Brannagan, Harris, Bennett, Goodrham, and Rodrigues. Their substitutes include Ingram, McEachran, Ebiowei, Sibley, Mizouni, Leigh, Kioso, Thorniley, and O’Donkor.
