Joseph Kosinski Directing Film Set

Los Angeles, CA — Director Joseph Kosinski, known for his dynamic storytelling and visual style, is experiencing a resurgence in interest as his films gain popularity on streaming platforms. With an impressive filmography spanning over 15 years, Kosinski made his feature debut in 2010 with the sci-fi sequel, Tron: Legacy.

Though Tron: Legacy garnered mixed reviews, its futuristic aesthetic and iconic soundtrack revitalized the franchise, which had been dormant for nearly three decades since the original film featuring Jeff Bridges. This year, a new installment in the Tron series is slated for release, but Kosinski will not return as director.

Kosinski rose to prominence after directing Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, a sequel to the beloved 1986 classic. The film has been a massive success, grossing just under $1.5 billion at the global box office, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 2022, trailing only James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water. Top Gun: Maverick also received multiple Oscar nominations, securing the award for Best Sound.

Currently, Kosinski’s 2017 film, Only the Brave, is performing well on streaming platforms. Based on a true story, this biographical drama stars Jeff Bridges and recounts the heroic efforts of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of elite firefighters who bravely fought the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire in Arizona. Despite struggling at the box office with a total of $26.3 million against a $38 million budget, Only the Brave is now gaining traction, recently ranking sixth on Paramount+’s top 10 movies list in the United States as of March 17.

Only the Brave is currently outperformed by films such as Gladiator II and Kosinski’s own Top Gun: Maverick but surpasses titles like September 5 and Transformers One. The film boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Josh Brolin, Taylor Kitsch, and Miles Teller, the latter of whom also appeared in Top Gun: Maverick.

The growing interest in Only the Brave underscores a broader trend in audience viewing habits. The Paramount+ chart suggests that Kosinski’s works are drawing renewed attention, with fans eager to explore his filmography beyond the blockbuster success of Top Gun: Maverick.

This renewed interest is promising for Kosinski, who is set to direct the upcoming film F1, which has been developed with a significant budget. With viewers engaging with his past projects, there is greater potential for F1’s success when it debuts.
