Jury Duty Returns for Season 2 on Prime Video with New Setting

LOS ANGELES, CA — The comedy series “Jury Duty,” which debuted in 2023 on Amazon‘s Freevee, will return for a second season on Prime Video, according to sources familiar with the matter. Although Amazon has not officially commented on the news, it’s been confirmed that season 2 has already been filmed.
The upcoming season will shift its setting from the courtroom to a corporate retreat, a move that aims to explore new comedic opportunities. This season was filmed in Agoura Hills, a suburb of Los Angeles. “Season 1 followed Ronald Gladden as he navigated a fabricated court case, unaware that he was the only person not in on the prank,” a source stated.
Cody Heller, the showrunner, expressed excitement about the challenge of producing such a unique series. In a previous interview, she noted, “There was something about that fear of failure that ignited something in myself,” reiterating that the success of season 1 stemmed from Gladden’s genuine responses throughout the series.
“Jury Duty” is known for its candid camera approach, with actors, including James Marsden, improvising their roles while Gladden participated as an unsuspecting juror. Marsden described the tension and challenge involved in filming, sharing, “This is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. You get one take; if he sees a hidden camera, the whole thing is upended.”
With strong viewership and critical acclaim, season 1 garnered multiple nominations, enhancing its appeal within the comedy genre. Gladden, who signed a two-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios in late 2023, is set to develop new projects alongside the studio, promoting a message focused on kindness and positivity.
As for the cast of season 2, it remains unclear whether Gladden or Marsden will reprise their roles. However, the shift to a corporate retreat theme allows for a fresh set of hijinks and comedic scenarios, seemingly inspired by classic films such as “Animal House” and “Caddyshack.” Gladden has previously expressed his gratitude for his time on “Jury Duty,” highlighting the joy and creativity he experienced while working on the series.
The official premiere date for season 2 has not yet been announced, but with filming already completed, fans can expect updates soon. Season 1 of “Jury Duty” is available for streaming on Prime Video following the shutdown of Freevee, where it originally aired.
