Justin Timberlake Releases New Single ‘Selfish’ Ahead of Upcoming Album
Justin Timberlake has made a comeback with his new single and music video, ‘Selfish’, as part of the lead-up to his highly anticipated album, ‘Everything I Thought It Was’. The song was co-written by Timberlake, Louis Bell, Cirkut, Theron Thomas, and Amy Allen, and produced by Timberlake, Bell, and Cirkut. The music video, directed by Bradley J. Calder, showcases a self-deprecating Timberlake rehearsing for a video shoot in a vast studio. It takes a surreal turn as he enters a strange, elongated room with a red telephone at the end and eventually finds himself back in the studio, smashing a miniature set. The video concludes with Timberlake delivering a stylish performance of the song.
Timberlake’s promotional campaign for his new album mirrors his past approach, including appearances on ‘The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon‘ and ‘Saturday Night Live‘, as well as a special free concert at New York’s Irving Plaza. Notably, the singer has mostly kept a low profile in recent years after the lukewarm response to his 2018 album, ‘Man of the Woods’. Despite occasional contributions to the ‘Trolls’ film soundtracks, Timberlake’s return to the solo spotlight marks a departure from his previous collaborations.
Regarding the new album, Timberlake’s longtime musical collaborator described it as a return to the fun and young vibe of ‘FutureSex/ LoveSounds’. The aim was to create an authentic and true-to-art album, reminiscent of the ‘FutureSex’ era, featuring catchy and dance-worthy tracks that resonate with a wide audience.
