WASHINGTON, D.C. — As Donald Trump, 78, was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday at the U.S. Capitol, the spotlight turned to his family, particularly his eldest grandchild, Kai Trump. The 17-year-old, who has been a fixture at high-profile events, delivered a memorable speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last July, capturing the attention of social media users nationwide.

“To me, he’s just a normal grandpa,” Kai said during her speech. “He gives us candy and soda when our parents aren’t looking. He always wants to know how we’re doing in school.” She also defended her grandfather, stating, “A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell, and he’s still standing.”

Kai, born on May 12, 2007, is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, who divorced in 2018. She is the eldest of Donald Trump’s ten grandchildren and has been in the public eye since childhood, attending events like the White House Easter Egg Roll. A junior at The Benjamin School, a private institution in North Palm Beach, Florida, Kai is an avid golfer and plays for her school team. She plans to attend the University of Miami after graduating in 2026.

Despite her family’s political prominence, Kai has maintained a focus on her personal interests. “I haven’t missed a golf match or practice for my team,” she shared in a recent interview. Last year, she won a ladies’ club championship at a local golf course, further cementing her passion for the sport.

Kai’s bond with her grandfather extends to the golf course. “When we play golf together, if I’m not on his team, he’ll try to get inside of my head, and he’s always surprised I don’t let him get to me,” she said during her RNC speech. “But I have to remind him, I’m a Trump, too.”

Her Election Night vlog, which offered a behind-the-scenes look at the Trump campaign headquarters, went viral, amassing over 4.5 million views. The video showcased moments from Mar-a-Lago, where the family gathered to watch election results, including interactions with figures like Elon Musk.

Kai lives in Jupiter, Florida, with her mother and four younger siblings: Donald John Trump III, 15; Tristan Milos Trump, 13; Spencer Frederick Trump, 12; and Chloe Sophia Trump, 10. Her father, Donald Trump Jr., 47, serves as executive vice president of the Trump Organization and is a key adviser to the president.

As the Trump family returns to the White House, Kai’s poised demeanor and growing public presence suggest she may continue to play a role in the family’s political narrative.
