Kansas Corporation Commission to Discuss Evergy Rate Hike on June 16

TOPEKA, Kansas – The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) will hold its final public hearing regarding Evergy’s proposed electric rate increase on Monday, June 16, at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Washburn Institute of Technology, located at 5724 SW Huntoon Street.
Evergy, the largest electric utility in Kansas, filed a request with the KCC in January for a $196.4 million rate increase, which translates to an average hike of 8.62%. If approved, residential customers can expect to see their monthly bills rise by approximately $13.05 starting in September 2025.
This hearing allows the public to gain insights into Evergy’s request, ask questions, and express their opinions directly to KCC representatives. Attendees are encouraged to participate in person, but those unable to attend may join via Zoom, with pre-registration required. The hearing will also be streamed live on the KCC’s YouTube channel without the need for registration.
The KCC will accept written comments concerning the rate increase until 5 p.m. on July 14. Interested individuals can provide feedback, register for the Zoom session, or access further details about the rate application by visiting the KCC’s website and selecting the “Your Opinion Matters” tab.
A decision regarding Evergy’s rate application will be announced by the Commission on or before September 29, 2025.
