Karate Kid: Legends Trailer Sparks Nostalgia and Anticipation Ahead of Release

LOS ANGELES, April 1, 2025 — The iconic Karate Kid franchise prepares to return to theaters with its latest installment, Karate Kid: Legends, set to premiere on May 30, 2025. The new trailer, unveiled at CinemaCon, introduces audiences to a fresh narrative while paying homage to its rich history.
The film features Mr. Han, portrayed by Jackie Chan, as he takes on the role of mentor to Li Fong, a young martial artist played by Ben Wang. Li moves from Beijing to New York City and faces challenges with local bullies, prompting him to train for an upcoming martial arts tournament. The trailer evokes a sense of familiarity, drawing parallels to the original 1984 film.
“After a family tragedy uproots Li Fong from Beijing, he struggles to adjust in NYC,” the trailer encapsulates, revealing his reluctance to fight as trouble begins to follow him. Chan’s Mr. Han seeks out Daniel LaRusso, portrayed by Ralph Macchio, to merge their martial arts styles and prepare Li for his challenges.
This sixth installment not only continues the saga of the original Karate Kid but also revitalizes the series for a new generation. Director Jonathan Entwistle and writer Rob Lieber have crafted a story that intertwines legacy with modern-day struggles. CinemaCon attendees were treated to exciting footage featuring dazzling martial arts scenes and heartfelt interactions between Han and LaRusso.
“The connection between Mr. Han and Mr. Miyagi is pivotal,” Entwistle said. “Without giving too much away, the Han and Miyagi families share a significant history that our fans will appreciate.”
In addition to Chan and Macchio, the film features Ming-Na Wen as Li’s mother, Joshua Jackson as a key figure in Li’s new life, and Sadie Stanley as his love interest. Newcomer Ben Wang infuses youthful energy, continuing the legacy of the franchise aimed at inspiring audiences.
As anticipation builds, fans are eager to see how the essence of the franchise is captured. “We wanted to create a story that resonates deeply, blending rich nostalgia with modern-day tales of resilience and discipline,” Entwistle added.
With a combination of thrilling action and emotional depth, Karate Kid: Legends is poised to be a landmark release for both old fans and new audiences alike, highlighting the timeless theme of self-discovery through martial arts.
As theaters prepare for the release, the excitement surrounding the film continues to grow, promising an electrifying experience on the silver screen.
