Karen Gillan Juggles Motherhood and Screenwriting Amid New Baby

Los Angeles, CA — Hollywood star Karen Gillan revealed she wrote a horror screenplay while caring for her newborn daughter. The 37-year-old actress, known for her role in Guardians of the Galaxy, welcomed baby Clementine with her husband Nick Kocher in December.
In a recent interview, Gillan explained how she managed to balance work and motherhood. During the early weeks of her daughter’s life, she found that Clementine would only sleep in her arms. ‘I’ve written a pilot for television in that haze because I didn’t figure out how to put the baby into the crib, so it was all contact naps,’ Gillan stated.
Seeking a way to occupy her time, she began creating the horror script. ‘What can I do right now to pass the time? I know I’ll create something,’ she recalled. She described the process as a combination of typing on her phone and mentally developing her ideas until she could write them down.
Discussing the project, she noted, ‘It is probably going to be the biggest undertaking of my life… It will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done.’ Gillan reflected on the challenges ahead but expressed excitement about the creative venture.
Additionally, Gillan shared her thoughts on her daughter growing up in the United States. ‘It’s odd to think that she’s going to have an American accent. She’s going to be like “Hey mom,” and I’ll be like “It’s mum,”’ she said, highlighting the cultural differences she notices.
During her interview with Virgin Radio host Ryan Tubridy, Gillan also discussed her experiences with fame. She noted that while she can move around London without being recognized, it’s much harder in her hometown of Inverness, where people are more aware of her.
When Tubridy referred to her as ‘glamorous,’ Gillan responded with surprise, saying, ‘I just don’t view myself that way.’
