Karol G Documentary Tomorrow Was Beautiful Premiere

NEW YORK, NY — Colombian superstar Karol G shared her deeply personal journey in the documentary “Tomorrow Was Beautiful,” which premiered on May 8 on Netflix. In the film, she opens up about her challenges, triumphs, and the emotional toll of her record-breaking stadium tour.

Karol, who released her successful LP in 2023, revealed, “I’ve never watched it [the documentary] with anyone. I feel like there are things that are super personal that are exposed in this documentary.” Karol’s director, Cristina Costantini, said she aimed to tell a complex story, showing that heroes like Karol are multifaceted individuals.

“Tomorrow Was Beautiful” chronicles every aspect of Karol’s life, from her rise in reggaeton to her struggles with mental health. One poignant moment captures Karol revealing she experienced sexual harassment at the age of 16 by an unnamed manager, which led her to step away from the music industry temporarily. “Unfortunately, in big industries, women have to go through horrible things,” she says in the documentary.

The film also explores her tumultuous relationship with Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA. Although she does not mention him by name, she describes her breakup as a toxic and painful period in her life. “I would wake up and felt like I was dying. I felt worthless as a person,” she recalls.

Karol discusses her artistic evolution too, especially her empowerment through her music, including her popular song “Bichota.” She defines a bichota as a woman who owns her business and is a visionary, aiming to change the connotation of the term, which has roots in Puerto Rican gangster culture.

The documentary highlights Karol’s love for the late singer Selena Quintanilla, illustrating how Selena’s legacy has inspired her career. At a concert in San Antonio, Texas, Karol paid tribute to Selena with a performance of “Como La Flor,” honoring the icon’s enduring impact.

Throughout the documentary, Karol shows her humorous side as well, notably during a scene where she jumps into New York’s Hudson River, a decision that left her under the weather. “I think the documentary really shows the ups and downs of life,” she explains. “Good things will happen, that’s what I want people to take away when they watch this.”
