Keanu Reeves Documentary Stunt Work

LOS ANGELES, CA – Keanu Reeves, star of the John Wick film series, recently discussed the significance of stunt performers during a screening of the new documentary Wick is Pain. The film dives into the making of the popular action franchise, highlighting the crucial role of stunts in filmmaking.

Reeves, who has starred in four main John Wick films and a spinoff, clarified that although he has performed many of his own stunts, much of the credit belongs to his stunt double, Jackson Spidell. “Quite frankly, I love to hear the moment he receives recognition,” Reeves said, pointing out that stunt performers are often unsung heroes of the industry.

Due to various factors such as insurance and personal choice, many lead actors are unable to perform all of their own stunts, making stunt doubles essential. Reeves emphasized the importance of these skilled specialists, stating, “Without them, some of the biggest action sequences in film history wouldn’t be possible.”

Interestingly, Spidell noted that viewers might be surprised by the extent of Reeves’ involvement in the stunts, highlighting the actor’s impressive commitment to the role. After completing the fourth film, Reeves noted he needed a break from rigorous training.

As for the future of the franchise, a fifth John Wick film is already in development. Fans hope it can compete for the Academy Award’s new category for Achievement in Stunt Design, which is set to debut at the 100th Oscars in 2028. The film is set to release this summer on June 6.

Wick is Pain is currently available for purchase on various digital platforms, showcasing the dedication and artistry behind the movie’s thrilling stunt choreography.
