Meanwhile, changes are happening within the Mets organization following a disappointing 2025 season. Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns confirmed that manager Carlos Mendoza will return next year. However, several coaching positions are being re-evaluated, including the dismissal of bench coach John Gibbons.
Stearns stated, “We’re going to go through an evaluation of our entire coaching staff,” hinting at further changes to come. This transformation follows announcements that pitching coach Jeremy Hefner and hitting coaches Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes will not return for the next season.
In related news, former Mets player Edgardo Alfonzo expressed interest in joining Mendoza’s coaching staff. Alfonzo, who had a 12-year MLB career, sees the position as a privilege and wishes to contribute to the team.
“It would definitely be a privilege to work with Carlos and his staff helping the Mets, doing whatever [they need],” Alfonzo remarked, emphasizing his commitment to the organization’s future.
