Kendrick Lamar to Headline Super Bowl 59 Halftime Show in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS — The countdown to Super Bowl 59 is now in single digits as the highly anticipated matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs draws near. Fans are not only excited for the game but also buzzing about the halftime show, which will feature Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar.
In September 2024, the NFL and Roc Nation announced that Lamar, celebrated for his influential songwriting, would headline the biggest show of the year at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Lamar, the first artist in his genre to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music, has solidified his status as a music icon with two recent Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers: “Like That” featuring Future and Metro Boomin, and “Not Like Us.” The 17-time Grammy winner has also received seven nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards.
Lamar announced on social media that Grammy-winning artist SZA will join him as a special guest performer during the halftime show. The collaboration is expected to deliver a memorable performance for millions of viewers worldwide.
Meanwhile, crews spent Friday putting the finishing touches on the turf at the Caesars Superdome, where the Eagles and Chiefs will battle on Super Bowl Sunday. The field, decorated with Super Bowl LIX graphics, is the same turf the New Orleans Saints played on throughout the season. “They replace it every single year,” said Nicki Ewell, NFL Senior Director of Events.
The Superdome recently completed a four-year, $560 million renovation, with upgrades focused on improving the fan experience. Ewell emphasized that New Orleans’ unique culture and walkable environment make it a favorite Super Bowl host city. This will mark the 11th time New Orleans has hosted the event.
Super Bowl week kicks off Monday with an opening night event at the dome, featuring players and coaches from both teams, live entertainment, and autographs by NFL legends. Security will be heightened at both the dome and the Morial Convention Center, which is hosting the NFL Experience. A clear bag-only policy will be enforced at both venues.
“We work with all of our partners, local, state, and federal officials to come up with a plan where safety is non-negotiable,” Ewell said. “This was planned for years in advance.”
As the Superdome stands ready to dazzle, fans and performers alike are preparing for a week of football, music, and celebration in the heart of New Orleans.
