Kent Turkey Challenge Fundraiser Returns to Support Local Food Bank
Registration is currently open for the Kent Turkey Challenge, a charitable initiative aimed at supporting the Kent Food Bank. The event, organized by Torklift Central in partnership with Kent United Methodist Church, invites businesses, schools, churches, and various groups to participate in the 12th edition of this annual fundraiser to help provide Thanksgiving meals for families in need.
“We’re really excited to bring this back,” expressed Jasmyne Faborito, the marketing director of Torklift Central, during a presentation at the Kent City Council meeting on September 17. “It’s been a couple of years because of multiple circumstances, but we’re really excited to get back to it and make an impact on the community.”
The organizers have set ambitious targets for this year’s Turkey Challenge, aiming to raise $20,000 in donations and collect 10,000 pounds of food. This initiative not only encourages a friendly rivalry among participants but also includes a fun coloring contest for children to engage in the spirit of giving, according to Torklift Central.
Since its inception in 2011, the Turkey Challenge has successfully raised nearly $200,000 and facilitated the donation of 74,000 pounds of food to the Kent Food Bank. This year’s fundraiser will be running from September 29 through November 3.
Kent Mayor Dana Ralph expressed gratitude for the return of the Turkey Challenge. “We’re so grateful,” Mayor Ralph commented. “Torklift stepped up to help make sure families have food to celebrate. And I love the competition between businesses and schools that have participated.”
