EDMONTON — Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans will see a familiar face back in action as rookie receiver Keric Wheatfall makes his return to the lineup. Wheatfall has been sidelined for 92 days due to a hamstring injury and is set to play tonight at Commonwealth Stadium against the Edmonton Elks.

In his Canadian Football League (CFL) debut on June 13, Wheatfall stunned with an impressive performance in a game against Ottawa, making three catches for 111 yards, including a standout 76-yard reception. However, his promising start was halted by an injury in a subsequent match against the B.C. Lions.

“It will be like a dream,” Wheatfall expressed in an interview with bluebombers.com. “A lot of guys would die to be in my position right now. I’m going to put one foot forward and just keep on rolling.”

The young receiver believes he has gained valuable insights during his time away from the field by studying game film extensively. “While I was sitting out I was in the film room looking at all the spots,” Wheatfall explained, noting his improved understanding of defensive strategies.

Head coach Mike O'Shea acknowledged Wheatfall’s perseverance. “He stuck with it pretty damn good and he stuck with the playbook in terms of knowing what he needs to do. He’s an explosive guy,” O’Shea said, highlighting Wheatfall’s contributions prior to his injury.

Zach Collaros, the Blue Bombers’ quarterback, is eager to have Wheatfall back in the offensive mix. “He brings consistency and an understanding of what we’re trying to do,” Collaros stated, praising the receiver’s professionalism and skills.

With Winnipeg receivers recording only five 100-yard games so far this season, Wheatfall’s return is anticipated to enhance the Blue Bombers’ offensive capabilities. The team looks forward to seeing if Wheatfall can replicate his earlier success and provide a dynamic target for Collaros.
