Kevin Sorbo Shares Memories of Billy Graham and Faith Journey

Los Angeles, CA – Actor Kevin Sorbo, known for his role in the film ‘God’s Not Dead,’ reflected on his profound encounter with evangelist Billy Graham during a recent interview with CBN News.
At the age of 13, Sorbo attended a Graham event at St. Paul fairgrounds, where he was moved by the vast audience of around 300,000 people. ‘It was a hot August night. There was a full moon, and Billy Graham was incredible, even though he was a mile away on the stage,’ Sorbo recalled.
During the event, Sorbo had a striking moment when Graham approached him. ‘I felt a hand on my head. I turned around, and it was Billy Graham,’ he said, describing how the evangelist’s head appeared behind the full moon, creating a radiant image. ‘I got goosebumps.’
Sorbo’s connection to faith originates from his devout parents and experiences like that night with Graham. He stated, ‘I never went away from my faith… I never had that crisis where I didn’t believe in God or believe in Jesus.’
In addition to his memories of Graham, Sorbo revealed that a field trip to see a Shakespeare play ignited his passion for acting. He told his mother on the bus ride home, ‘I want to be an actor,’ but she initially dismissed his ambition.
Determined, Sorbo pursued acting seriously during college, taking on commercial work. His big break came when designer Gianni Versace discovered him while he was spending a summer in Italy.
Despite facing challenges in Hollywood, Sorbo, 66, remains committed to making uplifting family films. ‘Hollywood booted me out about ten years ago,’ he said, emphasizing the difficulties of expressing his conservative and Christian views in the industry. ‘I said: “But you’re the industry screaming for tolerance!”’
Recently, he has focused on producing films like ‘Miracle in East Texas,’ aiming to create content reminiscent of Hollywood’s earlier, more family-friendly offerings. ‘I don’t think I’m doing something that different. I’m doing the movies Hollywood used to do,’ he said, proudly reflecting on his journey.
