Khel Khel Mein Struggles At Box Office

Akshay Kumar‘s latest movie, Khel Khel Mein, hit theaters this Independence Day but didn’t exactly light up the box office. Despite being a comedy-drama featuring a star-studded cast like Vaani Kapoor and Taapsee Pannu, the film managed to rake in only Rs 5 crore on its opening day.

The movie faced stiff competition from two other films, Vedaa and the much-anticipated horror-comedy Stree 2, which stole the spotlight. Stree 2 grossed over Rs 54 crore, leaving Khel Khel Mein trailing behind. This opening marks another setback for Akshay, who has now seen three films flop this year.

While Khel Khel Mein started strong with decent ticket pre-sales, it struggled to keep momentum. Early reports indicated it was doing better than Vedaa initially, but that quickly changed as the latter managed to outperform it with Rs 6.52 crore on day one due to better spot bookings and broader appeal.

The film had a mixed reception among viewers despite some positive reviews. In cities like Delhi and NCR, the opening occupancy hit around 50.5%, indicating some interest, but it clearly wasn’t enough to draw significant crowds. With the holiday weekend ahead, there’s still hope for some recoveries, but the competition is tough.

Akshay Kumar, one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, is finding it difficult to regain his footing post-pandemic. With only one hit since then, eyes are now on his upcoming film, Jolly LLB 3, which carries a lot of expectations. This could be a crucial moment for him to bounce back in the competitive industry.
