Khel Khel Mein Struggles At The Box Office

The new film ‘Khel Khel Mein,’ starring Akshay Kumar and Vaani Kapoor, hit cinemas on Independence Day. Directed by Muddasir Aziz, this comedy-drama faces stiff competition from two other movies, ‘Stree 2‘ featuring popular actors and John Abraham’s ‘Vedaa.’

While ‘Stree 2’ has been a box office sensation, pulling in around Rs 54 crore including preview earnings, ‘Khel Khel Mein’ saw a much lighter response, collecting just about Rs 5 crore on its opening day, according to early figures from Sacnilk.

Despite positive reviews, ‘Khel Khel Mein’ struggled to keep momentum with more viewers flocking to ‘Stree 2.’ Meanwhile, ‘Vedaa’ also seemed to steal some audience interest, clocking in slightly higher with Rs 6.52 crore on its first day.

This trend marks a tough period for Akshay Kumar, whose last few releases, including ‘Sarfira‘ and ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,’ didn’t perform well at the box office either. Out of several movies released after the pandemic, only one has been a hit for him.

Interestingly, while ‘Khel Khel Mein’ had a better opening day than his latest disappointments, it still fell short compared to his successful previous film, ‘OMG 2,’ which opened with Rs 10.26 crore.

In major cities like Delhi and NCR, the movie’s occupancy reached around 50.5%, but it seems the clash with ‘Stree 2’ and ‘Vedaa’ played a significant role in limiting its box office draw. The film initially showed promise but couldn’t maintain its early sales.

‘Khel Khel Mein’ revolves around seven friends who find themselves embroiled in secrets when they decide to play a game during a wedding, with escalating stakes leading to serious revelations. With an intriguing premise, fans had some hope for its box office prospects, but these initial earnings suggest a tough battle ahead.
