Kings Part Ways with Lead Assistant Coach Jay Triano

Sacramento, California — The Kings are making changes to their coaching staff as they head into the new NBA season. This week, the team announced that lead assistant coach Jay Triano will not return for the upcoming season, according to sources from NBC Sports California.
Triano, who joined the Kings in 2022, played a key role in the team’s success last season. Under his guidance, Sacramento ended a 17-year playoff drought and secured the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. His impactful coaching earned him a promotion to associate head coach following the departure of Jordi Fernandez, who accepted the head coaching position with the Brooklyn Nets.
The decision to let Triano go came late Friday afternoon and marks a significant shift for the franchise as it continues to reshape its approach. While Triano has departed, assistant coaches Dipesh Mistry and Stephane Ingo will remain with the team. Mistry has had various roles since joining the Kings in 2023 and most recently served as the head video coordinator and player development coach. Ingo, who was hired last season, worked as a video coordinator.
In addition, reports from The Athletic indicate that Leandro Barbosa will also return, joining the coaching staff as the Kings look to build on last season’s achievements. As the offseason continues, the Kings’ management remains focused on enhancing their roster and coaching strategy for the upcoming season.
