Kirk Cousins Set to Start for Atlanta Falcons Against Miami Dolphins
ATLANTA, Georgia — Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to take the field as the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, according to sources from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Cousins, 37, is stepping in for Michael Penix Jr., who is recovering from a bone bruise in his left knee sustained during last week’s game. Penix was listed as questionable after limited practice leading up to the matchup.
Falcons head coach Raheem Morris expressed confidence in Cousins, who has taken significant reps in practice this week. “I’m really confident in our backup,” Morris mentioned, highlighting Cousins’ toughness and experience.
This week marks a notable point in Cousins’ career as it aligns with the 10-year anniversary of his famous quote following a game against the Washington franchise: “You like that?!”
Cousins has yet to start a game this season but played briefly in Week 3. Last season, after signing a four-year contract worth $180 million with the Falcons, he completed 66.9% of his passes, gaining 3,508 yards and tossing 18 touchdowns against 16 interceptions.
The Falcons are looking to improve upon their 6-3 record and face a Miami team still searching for its second win of the season. Atlanta’s offense features standout talents like running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London, who could pose challenges for the Dolphins’ defense.
The Dolphins and Falcons will kick off at 1 PM ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. With Cousins starting, the outcome of this game could significantly affect both teams’ seasons.
