TOKYO, Japan — Rising star Kiryu Yui has been cast as the voice of Snow White in the Japanese dubbed version of Disney‘s upcoming live-action musical film, “Snow White.” The announcement, made on January 31, 2025, has sparked excitement among fans and industry insiders alike. The film is set to premiere on March 20, 2025, bringing the classic fairy tale to life with a fresh musical twist.
Kiryu, a 19-year-old actress and singer, is known for her roles in musical theater, including acclaimed performances as Peter Pan and Juliet. This marks her debut as a voice actress, a role she described as a dream come true. “I was so happy when I found out; I had to voice my surprise!” Kiryu said in a statement. “Snow White has been a character I’ve admired since I was a child.”
The live-action adaptation stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White, with Gal Gadot portraying the evil queen. Kiryu expressed admiration for Zegler’s performance, noting, “Rachel’s voice was so powerful yet delicate, and it captivated me immediately.” She added that she aims to channel Zegler’s emotional depth in her own portrayal.
The film, directed by Marc Webb, combines beloved classic songs with new compositions by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo behind “La La Land” and “The Greatest Showman.” Kiryu highlighted the film’s main song, “Waiting On A Wish,” as a pivotal piece that captures Snow White’s emotional journey. “Hearing this song for the first time was so moving, and it brings me courage whenever I listen to it,” she shared.
Kiryu has undergone extensive vocal training to prepare for the role, emphasizing the importance of conveying Snow White’s growth from innocence to strength. “I have to express Snow White’s evolution delicately, and I have practiced extensively to accomplish this,” she said. “Each song beautifully encapsulates her emotional turmoil and growth.”
The live-action adaptation also features cutting-edge visual effects to enhance the magical world of Snow White, including the enchanted forest and the Seven Dwarfs. Fans can expect a blend of nostalgia and innovation, with new character arcs and storytelling elements that expand on the original animated film.
As anticipation builds, Kiryu remains focused on delivering a performance that resonates with audiences. “I hope viewers can enjoy the distinct soundscapes and experience every aspect of the world we’ve created with so much love,” she said. “There’s magic and joy, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
