Koei Tecmo Unveils ‘Warriors: Abyss’ with Roguelite Twist

Tokyo, Japan – Koei Tecmo Games has launched its latest title, Warriors: Abyss, during the State of Play event on February 12, 2025. This game blends the iconic Warriors action with roguelite elements, transporting players to a hellish battlefield filled with enemies and challenges.

Available immediately on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Warriors: Abyss allows players to engage in epic battles against hordes of foes, all set within a fiery and treacherous landscape. Koei Tecmo described it as an exhilarating experience, where gamers can fight overwhelming numbers of enemies while employing unique strategies and hero combinations.

The game introduces a novel gameplay mechanic featuring over 100 distinct characters. Players can control their chosen hero and also recruit allies encountered throughout the game. Utilizing a feature called Summoning Heroes, players can call upon these allies to enhance their abilities with Unique Tactics.

“The ability to choose up to seven active heroes from a roster of over 100 offers players an unprecedented range of strategy options,” said a representative from Koei Tecmo. With a staggering potential of 16 billion battle style combinations, players are encouraged to experiment and develop their own ultimate teams.

In terms of content, Koei Tecmo plans to roll out additional characters for free post-launch, starting with figures from the Jin Kingdom of the Dynasty Warriors series. As the game evolves, players can look forward to characters from beyond the Warriors universe.

Warriors: Abyss takes place within the sinister confines of Hell, where players must navigate various environments, tackle formidable enemies, and develop sophisticated strategies. With guidance from Enma, the King of the Underworld, players will fight through levels that require adaptability and cunning. As Koei Tecmo noted, the challenge will come not just from honing combat skills but also from mastering the game’s unique strategies through different hero and item combinations.

“This game isn’t solely dependent on improving your action skills,” the representative added. “You’ll need to explore various strategies based on your team composition to conquer its demanding challenges.”

In addition to the launch of Warriors: Abyss, Koei Tecmo is offering fans an exclusive in-game Dynasty Warriors Costume Set for those who purchase the game before March 14, 2025.
