Kohl’s to Close All Stores for Easter Sunday Observance

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. – Kohl's announced it will temporarily close all of its 1,150 stores nationwide for 24 hours this Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, to allow employees to observe the holiday with their families.
This closure is part of a broader trend among retailers as many chains, including JCPenney and certain popular grocery stores, will also shut down for the day, aligning with the annual observance of Easter.
The decision to close all stores was communicated in a recent company statement, emphasizing Kohl’s commitment to its employees’ well-being during significant holidays. “Our associates are important to us, and we want them to have the opportunity to celebrate Easter with their loved ones,” said a Kohl’s spokesperson.
While Kohl’s stores will be closed, customers seeking last-minute Easter items will have alternatives. Major retailers such as Walmart and Home Depot will remain open, offering shoppers various options for their holiday needs.
In addition to the Easter closure, Kohl’s is also planning to shut down approximately 27 locations across 15 states, which includes California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas, by April 2025.
Shoppers are reminded to plan accordingly as some stores may adjust hours for the holiday. It’s advisable to verify local store schedules in advance to avoid any surprises.
The Easter Sunday closure is part of a larger pattern in the retail sector, as various companies are now reassessing their holiday operating hours in response to employee feedback and cultural observances.
As of early 2025, the retail landscape has seen an uptick in temporary closures, reflecting changing consumer expectations and company policies that prioritize employee welfare during significant holidays.
