Konkona Sensharma And Manoj Bajpayee Star In Abhishek Chaubey's 'killer Soup'

Konkona Sensharma and Manoj Bajpayee, talented actors known for their captivating performances, are starring in Abhishek Chaubey’s latest project, ‘Killer Soup’.

The collaboration between Sensharma and Chaubey is not surprising, as they previously worked together in the iconic film ‘Omkara’, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Sensharma’s versatility as an actress shines through in roles that require her to adapt and transform.

In ‘Killer Soup’, Sensharma plays the character Swathi Shetty, a homemaker and aspiring chef who serves her husband Prabhu (played by Bajpayee) tasteless soup every day. Swathi’s passionate dream of opening her own restaurant is supported by her secret lover Umesh (also played by Bajpayee), a kind masseur with gambling debts.

The plot takes a dark turn when Swathi and Umesh are caught by Prabhu one night. Prabhu, known for his boorish behavior, meets an unexpected demise, leading Swathi to come up with a plan. The series draws inspiration from a real incident in Hyderabad, where a woman tried to pass off her lover as her deceased husband.

‘Killer Soup’ is an eight-episode series that delves into the complexities of the Shetty family, revealing secrets and conflicts. While the show has intriguing elements, such as Swathi attending cooking classes under an alias and a subplot involving Prabhu’s niece Appu yearning to pursue her artistic dreams, it lacks consistency.

Unfortunately, Bajpayee’s role is cut short due to Prabhu’s early demise, limiting his opportunity to fully explore his double role as Umesh and Prabhu. Despite the exceptional cast, which also includes Sayaji Shinde and Anula Navleker, the overall execution of ‘Killer Soup’ falls short.

The release of ‘Killer Soup’ on streaming platforms like Netflix highlights their focus on quirky crime dramas rather than politically-engaged shows. Abhishek Chaubey, known for his thrilling films such as ‘Udta Punjab’ and ‘Sonchiriya’, makes his directorial debut in the realm of series.
