Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard’s Kids React to Parents’ Breakup in ‘Hit & Run’
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard‘s daughters expressed their discontent after watching their parents’ 2012 film, ‘Hit & Run.’ The couple shared their children’s reactions during an appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live‘ on Tuesday.
Their daughters, Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10, were upset upon learning about their parents’ on-screen breakup. ‘They were very upset,’ Shepard said. ‘What made me happy is they were mad at Mom, not me.’ He humorously added, ‘They thought Mom was a b—h. They thought Daddy was a good boy with a bad past, and she should be able to overlook that, and I agree.’
Despite their initial anger, the kids ultimately enjoyed the film, which was based on Shepard’s relationship with Bell. ‘We spent all this time making this independent film and Daddy wrote it and directed it,’ Shepard explained. ‘They loved it. It’s very inappropriate, but it was a great litmus test for our children.’
In 2007, shortly after they began dating, Shepard briefly broke up with Bell because he was not ready to settle down. In an interview, Bell recalled the moment Shepard expressed his uncertainty. ‘He sat me down and said, ‘I can’t have this right now. I’m still dating other people.’ But just four days later, he changed his mind and returned to her.
Now married since 2013, Bell and Shepard have built a family together while navigating the complexities of their relationship. Bell noted on SiriusXM, ‘If you find two people that are like, ‘Yeah, we’re going to make this work,’ it’s about constant compromise.’
Bell appreciates Shepard’s commitment to personal growth within their relationship. ‘I’m glad I chose my husband because he has a commitment to growth at all times,’ she said. The couple continues to share their journey as parents and partners, even as they reflect on their early struggles.
Reflecting on parenting, Bell noted the everyday challenges and joys. ‘Every day is something comical. You could cry or crack up and just scream ‘This is ridiculous!’ because there’s so much nonsense,’ she described. ‘I’ve learned to appreciate my own mother more through this experience.’
