Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon Star in Road Trip Comedy ‘Driver’s Ed’

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon are set to star in the upcoming teen road trip comedy “Driver’s Ed,” directed by Bobby Farrelly, known for hits like “Dumb and Dumber.” Production begins in March in North Carolina, as AGC Studios fully finances the project.
The film follows a group of teens who steal their school’s driver’s ed car for a cross-country journey. Their mission is to help a high school senior reconnect with his college freshman girlfriend, ensuring their love story has a chance to flourish.
Farrelly, who co-directed several popular comedies with his brother, will bring the original screenplay by Thomas Moffett to life. The film aims to explore themes of friendship, choices, and the lengths people go to in matters of love.
“Nanjiani has showcased his versatility in previous roles, and with Shannon’s comedic background, this film promises to deliver laughs as well as heartfelt moments,” said producer Jonas Pate, who has worked on “Outer Banks” and other notable projects.
Last week, AGC International introduced the project at the European Film Market in Berlin, and further casting announcements are expected. UTA Independent Film Group will be co-representing U.S. rights alongside AGC.
Nanjiani, known for his performances in “The Big Sick” and “Only Murders in the Building,” is also involved in upcoming projects like “Poker Face Season 2″ and the anticipated drama “Ella McCay.” His representation includes UTA and Mosaic.
Shannon, a celebrated comedian with a long list of credits including “Saturday Night Live” and “Superstar,” is currently working on multiple projects. These include “Balls Up” and Netflix’s “People We Meet on Vacation.” She is represented by UTA and Framework Entertainment.
AGC’s EVP of Legal & Business Affairs, Anant Tamirisa, is overseeing the contractual arrangements for the studio. As both actors embark on this humorous journey, audiences can expect a blend of their distinct personalities and comedic styles.
The anticipation for “Driver’s Ed” marks another exciting venture in the realm of teen comedies, and with Farrelly at the helm, the film is poised to resonate with younger audiences grappling with similar themes of love and friendship.
