Kumail Nanjiani Returns to Stand-Up Comedy with Hulu Special

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25, 2025 — After more than a decade away from the stand-up stage, comedian Kumail Nanjiani is set to return with a new special on Hulu. The Emmy- and Oscar-nominated actor is partnering with the Disney-owned streaming service for this long-awaited project, marking his first comedy special since 2013’s Beta Male.
Nanjiani’s upcoming hour-long special continues Hulu’s strategy of expanding its stand-up comedy offerings under the “Hularious” brand. A release date and title for the special are yet to be announced.
The special will be produced by ITV America and TheYearOfElan, with Nanjiani serving as an executive producer alongside Elan Gale and Bernie Schaeffer. This venture highlights Hulu’s dedication to bringing established comedians to its platform.
Since the success of his inaugural comedy special, Nanjiani has branched out into various acting roles. He gained significant recognition for his performances in HBO’s Silicon Valley and Hulu’s Welcome to Chippendales. Additionally, he co-wrote and starred in the acclaimed film The Big Sick, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay alongside his wife, Emily V. Gordon.
In the years following Beta Male, Nanjiani has also appeared in notable projects such as Eternals, the romantic comedy The Lovebirds, and the upcoming Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. His versatility in acting has made him a household name in both film and television.
Hulu initially launched its “Hularious” brand back in November 2022 with Jim Gaffigan’s special The Skinny. Since then, the platform has introduced a variety of comedy specials featuring a mix of both newcomers and established artists, including Ilana Glazer, Roy Wood Jr., and Ralph Barbosa.
The inclusion of Nanjiani’s special is part of a broader initiative to support comedians and promote diverse voices in stand-up. Other anticipated specials under the “Hularious” umbrella include performances by Chris Distefano, Jessica Kirson, and Sebastian Maniscalco.
Kumail Nanjiani’s return to stand-up promises to be a highlight for comedy fans, as the comedian brings his unique perspective and storytelling prowess to the stage once again.
