Kurtis Ming Cbs Sacramento Consumer Reporter

Kurtis Ming, the veteran consumer affairs reporter and news anchor known for his ‘Call Kurtis’ series, has departed Sacramento‘s CBS station KOVR after more than two decades. His exit was announced during the station’s 4 p.m. broadcast on Friday, with anchors stating Ming ‘has decided to take another road.’ No specific reason was provided for his departure.

Ming joined KOVR in 2003 when the station was owned by Sinclair Broadcasting Group. Initially a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor, he rose to prominence after CBS acquired the station in 2005. Ming launched the ‘Call Kurtis’ series, which became a staple of consumer investigative reporting in Northern California. The show encouraged viewers to share their consumer issues, which Ming often tackled using hidden cameras and investigative techniques.

Over his 22-year career at KOVR, Ming covered major national and international stories, including Hurricane Katrina, the Scott Peterson murder trial, and California’s gubernatorial recall. His work earned him 42 regional Emmy nominations, with 11 wins, and the Consumer Journalist of the Year Award in 2016.

Ming’s departure comes as his contract was set to expire in February. The station has not announced a replacement for his role. Ming began his career behind the scenes at NBC‘s ‘Dateline‘ before moving to on-air roles in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Redding.
