Lady Gaga Unveils New Jazz Album ‘Harlequin’ and Teases Upcoming Film Role
Lady Gaga has introduced a new addition to her artistic repertoire with the announcement of ‘Harlequin,’ a jazz album set to release on September 27. This latest work serves as a companion piece to her role in the forthcoming film ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ where she portrays the iconic character Harley Quinn. A snippet of one of the dramatic songs from the album was shared by the singer on Instagram, featuring a video shot in the famed Louvre Museum. In the clip, her character defaces the Mona Lisa with red lipstick, accompanied by the text, “There’s always a Joker.”
While the song title remains officially unconfirmed, it is presumed to be “The Joker.” ‘Harlequin’ includes a range of jazz standards such as “Oh, When the Saints,” popularized by Louis Armstrong, and “Get Happy,” known from Judy Garland. This marks Gaga’s return to jazz since her collaborations with Tony Bennett.
In a recent interview, Gaga expressed her excitement about the new projects, stating, “What I want my fans to know is that I’m just, like, so happy. I’m healthy.” She reflected on how the new album came from her present state of happiness, contrasting it with a darker period she previously went through, which she described in her past music.
‘Harlequin’ follows “Shallow,” Gaga’s duet with Bruno Mars, and is set to feature a selection of newly recorded versions of classic songs that appear in the upcoming film. ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ directed by Todd Phillips, is a highly anticipated sequel releasing on October 4, with Gaga starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix.
The film, which has been described as a ‘jukebox musical,’ explores the companionship between the characters Joker and Harley Quinn. Despite mixed reviews, the film industry is abuzz with the film’s unique approach combining musical elements with storytelling.
