Laufey Shines at Her Opening Night in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, California — Laufey brought her unique jazz-infused pop sound to the Crypto.com Arena on Friday for the first night of her two-night stand. The concert was part of her ‘A Matter of Time Tour,’ which began on Sept. 15 in Orlando. This is Laufey’s third tour and the first to feature exclusively arena dates.
The Icelandic singer-songwriter, who won a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for her sophomore album, ‘Bewitched,’ is poised for another nomination for her latest release, ‘A Matter of Time.’ The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and has dominated Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart for the past month.
At just 26, Laufey appears to be on a rapid rise in the music industry. She might perform at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 1, a significant milestone as it would mark her first appearance on the prestigious event. Additionally, she is confirmed to perform at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on April 19, underscoring her growing popularity.
Laufey’s ambition is evident in her artistic choices. In 2023, she mentioned to RUSSH that her favorite current artist is Taylor Swift because of Swift’s ability to bridge genres and connect with audiences globally. “She has done for pop and country what I hope to do for jazz,” Laufey said.
For her North American leg, Laufey has teamed up with English singer-songwriter Suki Waterhouse, known for hits like “Good Looking” and “Supersad,” bringing a pop sensibility to the tour. Comparing her growth since her first L.A. headlining show in 2022, where she performed at the Troubadour, Laufey has significantly increased her venue size — in 2023, she sold out two nights at the Theatre at the Ace Hotel and this time, she filled the Crypto.com Arena.
As the night progressed, audiences were treated to a memorable performance that showcased her talent and ambition. Laufey’s energy and style captivated concert-goers, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting tour ahead.
