Lazio’s Sarri Discusses Draw Against Cremonese Amid Injuries
ROME, Italy – Lazio’s head coach Maurizio Sarri addressed the media after his team played to a frustrating 0-0 draw against Cremonese at the Stadio Olimpico on December 20, 2025. Despite controlling the game, the Biancocelesti struggled to convert their territorial advantage into scoring opportunities.
Sarri pointed out the impact of recent changes on the team’s attacking fluency, saying, “Some changes can make you lose automatisms.” He did, however, find a positive in the fact that Lazio kept a clean sheet against a team that had been scoring regularly.
The first half was particularly disappointing for Lazio, as Sarri noted, “The negative was a very poor first half technically, with basic mistakes.” He added that while their performance improved in the second half, it was still not enough to secure a win.
Injuries have become a significant concern for Lazio’s squad, especially in midfield. Sarri stated, “At Udine, we’ll have to play someone; right now we maybe have two midfielders available.” He highlighted that the injury situation has persisted for months, which he believes affects team performance.
When asked about recent refereeing decisions, Sarri remained evasive. “Please speak to the club,” he replied, emphasizing that his past comments on officiating led to controversy. “If I take a position, I get suspended. Why don’t you take one instead?” he challenged reporters.
Sarri also defended striker Valentín Castellanos, who has had difficulties scoring. “Either our style doesn’t suit him, or he’s in a difficult moment,” Sarri said, but he expressed confidence that Castellanos would eventually find his form.
Despite the draw, Sarri maintained a long-term perspective, declaring that Lazio is growing both mentally and tactically. He expressed his desire to remain with the club but acknowledged that several factors must be considered for that to happen.
