LeAnn Rimes Surprised by Contestants’ Ignorance

Leann Rimes At The Voice Auditions

LeAnn Rimes, the well-known singer and songwriter, was recently left feeling a bit disappointed during the blind auditions of the singing competition The Voice. The 41-year-old artist, famous for her hit ‘Can’t Fight The Moonlight’ from the 2000 movie Coyote Ugly, was surprised to discover that some of the young contestants didn’t know who she was.

According to insiders, the younger contestants seemed clueless about Rimes’ major impact on the music scene in the late 1990s. An insider mentioned, ‘The younger singers wouldn’t have even heard of Coyote Ugly, and that was really what put her on the map.’ This movie’s soundtrack was a massive hit, particularly her single that sold over two million copies worldwide.

It seems that some contestants weren’t even born when that catchy song took over the charts. However, behind the scenes, they were given a little history lesson about just how big LeAnn was in her prime, which shifted their views about her talent.

This awkward moment came just the day after comedian Sam Pang made a joke about Rimes during his opening monologue at the 2024 Logies. His punchline, suggesting viewers might only know Rimes by searching ‘Who is LeAnn Rimes?’ certainly didn’t go over well with her co-stars, Guy Sebastian and Kate Miller-Heidke.

Pang continued to roast the network Channel Seven for its scandals while also joking about his own lack of pay for hosting duties. His fearless performance had the audience laughing while leaving some star-studded faces in the crowd a bit stony-faced.

Despite the disheartening moments, LeAnn Rimes remains a talented artist who made waves in music history. However, the world keeps moving, and with each new generation, legendary icons may not always receive the recognition they once did.
