Lee Greenwood to Perform Live at Niswonger Center in October

Van Wert, Ohio – Country music legend Lee Greenwood will perform live at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center on Friday, October 17, 2025. The concert, presented by Greenway Bank, is supported by local patrons Bruce and Julie Kennedy, along with JoAnne Wolford.
Greenwood, who was born Melvin Lee Greenwood on October 27, 1942, in South Gate, California, has captivated audiences for decades with his powerful voice and emotional storytelling. His music career began in the early 1960s, where he gained experience performing in Las Vegas showrooms across various genres before finding his niche in country music during the late 1970s.
Known for his signature hit, “God Bless the U.S.A.,” released in 1984, Greenwood’s songs resonate with themes of patriotism and unity. The song quickly rose to number seven on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and has since become an anthem during significant national events, including the aftermath of the Gulf War and the September 11 attacks. Greenwood stated that his aim was to create a song that would celebrate shared American values.
Beyond his most famous track, Greenwood has enjoyed considerable success throughout his career. His 1983 single “I.O.U.” reached number six on the U.S. country charts while also crossing over to reach number four on the adult contemporary charts. His other number-one hits include “Somebody’s Gonna Love You,” “Dixie Road,” and “Mornin’ Ride.”
In recent interviews, Greenwood reflected on how his passion for country music developed. “I spent 19 years in Vegas… We did all kinds of music. My background is jazz and rhythm and blues. It wasn’t until I came to Tennessee in 1979 that I really had the chance to play the kind of country music they played here,” he said, showcasing the versatility that defines his unique sound.
As of 2025, Greenwood continues to tour, maintaining his connection with fans across the country. His long-standing commitment to music has solidified his status as a prominent figure in American music history.
