Leipzig, Germany – Yan Diomande, an 18-year-old winger from Ivory Coast, has nearly doubled his goal-scoring output since joining RB Leipzig from CD Leganés. After a summer transfer that raised eyebrows with a €20 million fee, Diomande’s performances this season have proven his worth.

Since arriving in Butarque as a relative unknown from the U.S. college soccer scene, Diomande played just six months with Leganés. Now, he is one of the standout players in the Bundesliga, having started in six of the ten matches this season, identical to his previous tally with Leganés.

“I feel very good here. The coach gives me confidence, and my teammates help me a lot,” Diomande said. His stats reflect his development: he has completed the most dribbles (25) and progressive runs (41) in the Bundesliga so far.

Leipzig head coach Ole Werner praised Diomande’s skills, stating, “His one-on-one play in tight spaces is on another level. He’s only 18. Just imagine in two years.” With a clear focus on development, Leipzig is nurturing Diomande to become a leading figure in their attack.

The young winger’s transfer generated headlines not only due to its size but also because he quickly gained international recognition, scoring twice in World Cup qualifiers against Seychelles and Kenya. With six goals in the league already this season, he has outperformed his record from Leganés.

“Yan has unsettled defenders. That goal is pure class: acceleration, feint, and a powerful shot. He is the future of this club,” Werner added after Diomande’s impressive display against Stuttgart.

Diomande’s market value has reportedly reached the same €20 million the club paid last summer, and with Leipzig valuing him higher now, his rise continues to attract attention across Europe. Leganés, the club he left behind, remains alert to potential financial gains from his development.
