Liam Hemsworth and Laura Dern Star in Netflix’s “Lonely Planet”
In an eagerly-awaited new release, actors Liam Hemsworth and Laura Dern team up for the Netflix film “Lonely Planet,” which is set to premiere on October 11. The film, described as an unexpected romance set against the scenic backdrop of a writers’ retreat in Morocco, features Dern as a reclusive novelist grappling with writer’s block while Hemsworth plays her love interest, Owen.
During an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Hemsworth expressed admiration for his co-star Dern, describing an “instant connection” between them despite having never met before working on this project. Hemsworth shared, “We didn’t know each other beforehand, but once we met, it felt like we’d known each other for a long time. There was this instant trust and connection.”
He continued to reflect on their collaboration, stating, “And as we worked together, that just grew and evolved, and we had such a great time doing this project together.” He commended Dern, labeling her as “an amazing, brilliant actress,” emphasizing the ease of their working relationship. “When you meet someone you are a fan of and respect so much … you don’t want to come across as an idiot or seem silly. But when we met, all of a sudden it was like, ‘Oh, I’m speaking to someone that understands me and hears me,'” Hemsworth noted.
In a humorous aside, Hemsworth added, “Who’s also an idiot and silly. And she’s as much of an idiot as I am. We got along and we never had to do any sort of work to find that relationship. We had this connection and it was sort of … what do you call it? Life imitating art or the other, art imitating life?”
The film has captured attention for its unique setting in Morocco and the chemistry between its lead actors. The narrative explores how the characters’ interaction leads to a transformative love affair, delving deep into themes of creativity, isolation, and connection.
