Liam Payne Had Multiple Drugs in System at Time of Death, Autopsy Reveals
Toxicology test results have provided insight into the tragic death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, who died on October 16 at the age of 31. A partial autopsy report indicates that Payne had multiple substances in his system when he fell to his death from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The substances found in Payne’s system included “pink cocaine,” a recreational drug that typically is a mix of several drugs such as methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA, and others. Additionally, cocaine, benzodiazepine, and crack were also detected. An improvised aluminum pipe used to ingest drugs was found in his hotel room.
Prior to his death, hotel officials had called authorities due to concerns about a guest who was “drunk with drugs and alcohol.” The hotel worker expressed urgency, stating that the guest’s life might be in danger because he was in a room with a balcony and could potentially do something that threatened his life.
When authorities arrived approximately seven minutes later, Payne’s body was found in the inner courtyard of the hotel, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. Alberto Crescenti, the director of SAME, Buenos Aires Emergency Medical Services, confirmed this to ABC News.
A preliminary autopsy report from the Argentinian Public Prosecutor’s Office found that Payne died from “multiple traumas” and “internal and external bleeding.” The report noted 25 injuries on Payne’s body, with head injuries sufficient to cause death and related to the height of his fall.
A hotel employee suspected of providing Payne with drugs on the day he died has been interviewed by officials, but no charges have been filed at this time. The hotel room was found to be in disarray, with multiple substances, broken objects, and drug paraphernalia present.
