Liberty’s Breanna Stewart Navigates Injury Ahead of Game 2 Playoff Showdown

Brooklyn, NY – Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty is determined to play in Game 2 of the team’s first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Mercury, despite suffering a sprained MCL in her left knee. The game is set for Wednesday night at Barclays Center.
Stewart’s injury occurred during Game 1 on Sunday, when she fell while driving to the basket. After undergoing tests and an MRI, she received encouraging news that her injury is manageable. Coach Sandy Brondello mentioned that the imaging results were “relatively clear,” allowing Stewart to make her own decision on playing.
“With injuries, there’s probably always a chance [of re-injury], so I’m willing to take that because I want to be out with my team,” said Stewart, who reported her pain level as a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10.
As the Liberty head into Game 2, they are looking to secure a win to advance in the playoffs. The team needs better performance from their bench players, who scored only two points in the first game compared to the Mercury’s bench scoring 21 points.
Fans are invited to join the Liberty community at The Beer Garage for a pregame event starting at 6 p.m. on the day of the game. The Liberty will be looking to rebound and close out the series, potentially giving their star player vital rest ahead of the semifinals.
