Lions Sign Ty Summers to Active Roster After Injury
DETROIT, Michigan — The Detroit Lions signed linebacker Ty Summers to the active roster from their practice squad on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025. The move comes after a series of roster changes following injuries to key players.
Summers, who has played in three games this season, has logged one tackle, primarily participating on special teams. The 29-year-old returned to practice earlier this week after suffering a thumb injury during the Week 9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
This signing fills a crucial roster spot that recently opened when offensive lineman Christian Mahogany was placed on injured reserve. According to reports, Mahogany suffered a leg injury during the game against the Vikings.
The Lions have been shuffling their roster this season, with Summers previously being released from the active roster in October before rejoining the practice squad. His experience from appearing in 86 NFL games will bolster the team’s defense, which struggled in their recent games.
Head coach Dan Campbell acknowledged the team’s defensive shortcomings after the loss to Minnesota, expressing disappointment in not being prepared for their opponent’s strategies. “We knew there would be some wrinkles, but there was nothing we hadn’t seen before,” Campbell said. “We expect more out of our guys.”
Additionally, Campbell noted that key plays by the Vikings on special teams contributed to the team’s disappointing performance.
With Summers back on the active roster, the Lions hope to strengthen their defense as they prepare for the upcoming matchup against a shorthanded team, following the injury to starting quarterback Jayden Daniels.
