Lizzo Makes Triumphant Return with ‘Love in Real Life’

LOS ANGELES, CA — Lizzo marked her return to music with the release of her new single, “Love in Real Life,” on Feb. 27, 2025. This is her first solo offering since contributing to the “Barbie” soundtrack in 2023. The song debuted alongside a vibrant music video that captures Lizzo’s energetic persona, featuring scenes of her dancing at a club and navigating the chaos of a party gone awry.
The upbeat track, which blends pop and rock elements, showcases Lizzo singing, “Give me something with a little tempo / Hey, ho, hey, ho / Give me something I can throw it back for.” Directed by Colin Tilley, the video opens with Lizzo preparing for a night out, donning a pink bustier paired with a matching feather boa.
Following quick cuts of her enjoying a lively night at a club, Lizzo faces unsettling moments as partygoers transform into zombie-like figures, echoing classic thriller aesthetics reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s iconic videos. She described her experience with the music as an opportunity to express personal growth and resilience.
Earlier this month, Lizzo revealed that her upcoming album was complete during a Twitch stream. “A lot of the music is me talking things through. I remembered my purpose; I’m putting everything in my art,” she stated. This new project signifies a fresh chapter for the artist, whose previous album “Special,” released in 2022, featured the Grammy-winning single, “About Damn Time.”
Amidst a brief hiatus, Lizzo faced allegations of workplace harassment from former employees, which she has publicly addressed. “The hardest part about all this is that none of these things were true,” she told podcast host Zainab Johnson in December. “The experience taught me healthy boundaries… it’s nuanced. It’s a new conversation in this industry.”
To celebrate her new single, Lizzo announced three intimate shows scheduled for March 2025 at venues including the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles and Irving Plaza in New York City.
“Love in Real Life” is the first taste of her fifth album, which is set to be released later this summer. This marks a significant return for Lizzo as she embraces a new artistic direction while staying connected with her loyal fan base.
