Thomas Sorber Nba Draft

PHILADELPHIA — Thomas Sorber, a standout from Archbishop Ryan High School, is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Just one year after graduating from high school, he is set to hear his name called on Wednesday night.

“It’s going to be a little emotional night for me and my family,” said Sorber. “We know we got to this point, and I’m just going to have to keep on working hard.” Before the big event, Sorber returned to his old high school to engage with kids attending basketball camp, where he signed autographs and took photos.

“I just love it here,” he expressed. “It’s like a second home for me.” Sorber transferred to Archbishop Ryan in his sophomore year, where he made a significant impact under head coach Joe Zeglinski.

Coach Zeglinski praised Sorber’s work ethic, saying, “It’s a kid you want to look up to. He just wanted to get better every day and uplift his teammates every day.” On draft night, Zeglinski plans to be in the green room to support Sorber as he fulfills a long-held dream.

Sorber’s journey to the draft is historic for Archbishop Ryan, as he is set to become the first first-round NBA Draft pick in the school’s history. Notably, it has been nearly two decades since a player from the Philadelphia Catholic League was drafted in the first round.

“It’s hard to measure how much it means,” Zeglinski added. “I think he’s just getting started with his potential and how great he’s going to be. He deserves it – deserves all the credit.”

As the community gathers for a Draft Watch Party this Wednesday to support their hometown hero, Sorber remains focused. “It’s crazy, but at the end of the day, I’m just looking to hear my name called,” said Sorber.

The NBA Draft begins on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
