LOS ANGELES, CA — A few weeks after the animated film ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ was saved from being shelved, star Will Forte is still in shock. The movie features Forte and John Cena alongside an animated Wile E. Coyote.

The film generated buzz in late 2023 when news broke that Warner Bros. intended to cancel it as part of a $115 million writedown. After a social media campaign, Ketchup Entertainment acquired the worldwide rights to the movie, leading to its eventual release.

At the Los Angeles premiere of his new Netflix show on Thursday, Forte expressed his feelings about the movie’s turnaround. “Words cannot describe how thrilled I am,” Forte told The Hollywood Reporter. “I never thought it would happen, so it just came out of nowhere. Thank you, Ketchup Entertainment. I’m excited for people to see this movie. I’m going to promote the crap out of it!”

Forte had previously voiced his frustration over the film’s shelving, calling the decision “bullshit.” He passionately stated, “It is such a delightful movie. It deserves so much better.”

Directed by Dave Green, ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ does not yet have a confirmed release date but is expected to follow Wile E. Coyote as he takes legal action against the Acme Corporation for their defective products.

Forte is not the only cast member who expressed sadness about the initial cancellation. Co-star Lana Condor described it as the worst experience of her career, recalling a “funeral screening” they held for the film. She said, “It’s genuinely heartbreaking that there’s a world where no one will ever see it.”

With a release anticipated in 2026, attention is now on how the film will perform in theaters

and whether the passionate fan base that formed during its two-year journey can help it succeed. Given its projected $72 million price tag, the marketing push will be crucial for Forte and the cast.
