Lopez vs Lopez” Season 3 Set to Premiere on NBC with New Developments in Family Dynamics
“Lopez vs Lopez,” the NBC sitcom featuring celebrated comedian George Lopez and his real-life daughter, Mayan Lopez, is set to return for its third season. The show, which explores the complex yet humorous relationships within the Lopez family, will premiere on October 18 at 8:30 PM ET/PT.
The new season begins with Mayan and Quinten, portrayed by Matt Shively, navigating the unexpected twists following their engagement. The engagement adds a fresh dimension to the couple’s relationship, especially as Mayan, once hesitant about marriage, now embraces the idea with renewed enthusiasm. Shively commented, “It being her choice brought more comfort to their relationship.”
Showrunner Debby Wolfe explained the timing of the couple’s engagement, stating that Mayan’s initial reluctance stemmed from her relationship with her father. “Her father’s back in her life and really working on healing…that was keeping her from going down the aisle,” said Wolfe. The progression reflects the show’s recurring theme of reconciliation and growth within family ties.
Season 3 will also address George’s struggle with sobriety, a challenge he faced at the conclusion of the previous season. According to Selenis Leyva, who plays Rosie, the show will depict George “living his life, doing the George, and really being the best version that he could be.” This season aims to depict recovery as a part of life, not a dominating factor.
The comedy series doesn’t shy away from heavier subjects, utilizing humor to tackle real issues. The characters’ participation in therapy sessions, aiming to understand misplaced anger and navigate personal shortcomings, is one such approach. “We weren’t holding ourselves accountable for our own issues,” stated Shively, reflecting on the family’s evolving dynamics.
The upcoming episodes promise comedic moments as Rosie and George meddle in wedding plans, while simultaneously dealing with their own past challenges. Parent and child will both find comedic and heartfelt ways to express their ideas for the nuptial, offering viewers a blend of laughter and emotion.
George Lopez weighed in on the complexities portrayed in the show, highlighting the balance between humor and sincerity, “Taking over somebody’s wedding is a big deal. Parents overstepping and all that stuff.” The guidance of various prior disasters renders their teamwork both entertaining and touching.
Joining George and Mayan in the season are other familiar cast members such as Brice Gonzalez and Selenis Leyva, adding depth to the familial interactions that make the show relatable to audiences.
